The Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival and Left Hand Brewery have announced “BLT”, a new event celebrating three Iowa favorites: sweet corn, B.L.T.s and cold beer. It will take place under the canopy at Brenton Skating Plaza from 5pm to 9pm on August 5 and tickets are available now for $25 (plus tax and fees) CLICK HERE.
Brooks Reynolds, president and cofounder of the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival, explained the idea behind the event, “As Iowans, we share fond memories of eating freshly prepared B.L.T.s, chewing on ears of Iowa sweet corn, and sipping on cold beer in the balmy heat of summer.” He continued, “So, picture in your mind all those experiences happening in one place, at one time.” Reynolds paused, and then added, “And, now, picture yourself being totally FLABBERGASTED! BOOM!”
Confused? You’re not alone. It may be difficult to comprehend how combining such simple pleasures could lead to a culinary “BOOM!” But, when Mr. Reynolds explains that he’s assembled a gastronomic dream team comprised of Café di Scala, Motts Famous Sweet Corn, Butcher Crick Farms, Grade A Gardens, South Union Bread, and Left Hand Brewing it begins to make more sense. With a $25 ticket (plus taxes and fees), each participant will receive the following:
- One (1) B.L.T. – This culinary delight will be prepared by Café di Scala with six pieces of bacon from Berkwood Farms & Des Moines Bacon Company, lettuce from Grade A Gardens, tomatoes from Butcher Crick Farms, bread from South Union, and a Left Hand-Infused Aioli Bar.
- Two (2) Ears of Corn – These ears will be picked fresh in the morning and cooked to perfection by Mott’s Family Farms. Smothered it with butter or the Mott’s bacon butter, your choice.
- Four (4) 8oz Beer Samples – For the first time in Iowa history, Left Hand Brewing Company will share its award-winning Milk Stout Nitro and three other flavors with Iowans!
- Live Music performed by Mr. Baber’s Neighbors, Iowa’s favorite bluegrass group
The event will run from 5-9 pm and additional beer will be available for purchase. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold for this rain or shine event.
When asked why Left Hand Beer will be the only beer available, Reynolds responded, “Have you ever tried Left Hand’s Milk Stout Nitro with a B.L.T. or sweet corn? Well, it will leave you totally FLABBERGASTED! BOOM! Oh, and did I mentioned this is a 21 and over event?”
