Central Iowa prepares for the Baconpocalypse starting on Sunday, February 12th
The Iowa Bacon Board has announced the official schedule for possibly the last “Bacon Week” in history. Beginning on Sunday, February 12th and culminating on Saturday, February 18th with the 5th Annual Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival “Baconpocalypse Now: I love the smell of bacon in the morning” presented by Iowa Select Farms. Bacon Week festivities are as follows:
Sunday, February 12
Bacon Week Kickoff

Description: Free bacon samples from 11 AM – 2 PM. Every bloody mary, Coors, Coors Light or Pabst Blue Ribbon purchased from Sunday at 7 a.m. to Thursday at 8 p.m. will enter you into a drawing for 2 Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival tickets. The drawing will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17th. “The Day of the Sleeping Pig” and you must be present to win.

Bacon Elegance Dinner (SOLD OUT)

Serve Bacon to the One You Love Day

Description: Nothing says “I love you” like bacon served in a creative way. Warning: Do not attempt to fry and serve bacon in the nude. Wear a proper cooking apron for goodness sake.

Description: From 3 PM to 10 PM munch on free bacon samples, enjoy $3 beer, wells and call drinks and cheer as judges crown one lucky gal the 2012 Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival Bacon Queen. The Bacon Queen will receive a prize package that includes the following:
* A sash and tiara (And you get to keep it!)
* The opportunity to ride on the Bacon Festival float in Des Moines’ St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
* Two VIP tickets to the SOLD OUT Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival
